MEPs of the SYRIZA condemn upcoming Mos Maiorum pan-European police operation designed to implement
from 13 until 2014 26Oktwbrioy from the Italian Interior Ministry in close cooperation with Frontex and Europol. The aim of the operation, in accordance with the communication from the Council of the European Union, is the detection of illegal immigrants within the Schengen area and gathering relevant information "for purposes of information and investigation".
The Mos Maiorum business is a further proof of the lack of genuine respect for European human rights institutions, which they claim to protect. There is no warranty for the treatment of persons who will be captured (e.g. as to the duration and conditions of detention), it doesn't seem to be any distinction as to applicants for political asylum and is not even known which EU Member States will participate.
It is obvious that they are trying to cheap sensationalism on behalf of the Italian Government, which holds the rotating Presidency.
We MEPs of the Greek Government call SYRIZA not to participate in business-broom and invite Dimitris Avramopoulos, as Commissioner of immigration and Home Affairs, to take a position as to the usefulness and the guarantees accompanying similar businesses. Finally, ask for the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive and humane immigration policy of the European Union with equitable distribution of responsibility between EU Member States.
