Statements to the G20 by Erdoğan
According to reports which have been made public and which refer to the minutes concerned, during talks at the recent G20 summit, the President of Turkey, Mr Erdoğan, among other unacceptable statements, said at a meeting: ‘We can open the doors to Greece and Bulgaria at any time and put the migrants onto buses.’
The Turkish President’s attempt to claim a financial aid package larger than the EUR 3 billion he is already expected to get, did not stop him threatening Europe and openly casting doubt on the agreement which he himself has signed with the EU.
According to the same reports, Mr Tusk and Mr Juncker have refused to confirm or deny the existence of this document, while Erdoğan’s office has avoided making any comment.
In view of the above, I would like to ask the Commission:
1. Does it or does it not confirm the existence of the document concerned and the extortionate statements and threats and, if so, how does it view them?
2. What stage has been reached in the negotiations on achieving an agreement between the EU and Turkey, and in what way does the Commission propose to exert further pressure on the Turkish leadership to bring about a reduction in the refugee flows?
